90 Pieces and Counting: A Heartfelt Chat with Edwin, One of Our Most Devoted Collectors

Why We're Featuring Edwin

Some collectors leave reviews. Others share photos. And then there's Edwin — a quiet legend in our community, who's collected over 90 pieces of our work. From the very beginning, his thoughtful comments, stunning photography, and creative energy have lit up our inbox. We finally had the chance to sit down (virtually) and ask: What inspires you to keep coming back?

A Collector's Journey — In Edwin's Words

Q: Do you still remember the very first piece you got from us? (Was it the shape, the material, or just... something that caught your heart?)

A: When I was scrolling on my Facebook feed, something unique caught my attention. It was the Trilobite pendant from a Coppertist.wu advertisement which was animated with movement. I haven't worn any necklace in my life, so I tried to visit Coppertist.wu's website and took a look at their products. It got me hooked and very interested because of the creativity and craftsmanship in the items. When I made my first purchases, the first piece that went to my cart was the Cicada pendant. I chose the brass because it has three different colors. Then, it came along with three other items such as the Scorpion pendant, Knob Tail Gecko brooch, and the Snake pendant. It was earth day sale so I got a good deal! Then, the items arrived in less than ten days. I was really amazed by the incredible quality. I thought to myself that this company is really something, very serious and dedicated to their products. In just a few days, I finally ordered the first thing that caught my heart when I first saw it in an ad. It is the Trilobite pendant in oxidized silver and came along with the Scorpion brooch, Rattlesnake Tail pendant and the Rattlesnake Head charm. I absolutely love them all! In just a matter of 14 months, I realized I already have over 90 pieces of wonderful creations from Coppertist.wu!

Q: Okay, so this is wild — you've placed over 40 orders with us! If you had to pick your Top 5 favorites…, which ones make the list?

A: It's really hard to choose my top 5 because they are all exceptional! But for the sake of ranking for each category, here they are:
1 - Trilobite Pendant (it's because it has first caught my attention)
2 - Scorpion Brooch (I have 3 colors)
3 - Jumping Spider Rings (I have 3 colors)
4 - Turtle Bead Bracelet (Hericium Beads Luxury Edition - 1)
5 - Crab Pen Holder (looks amazing! Looks like the real thing!)

Q: What keeps you coming back to Coppertist.Wu?

A: It is some kind of a drug, it's really addictive! There was a moment when I thought “That's it, that's my last purchase ever!” but days later, I find myself purchasing another piece because of a new creation and I really want it! Coppertist.wu works hard to come up with unique and extra-ordinary ideas. In fact, I'm still waiting for their bronze watches to be available.

Q: Your photos always blow us away — how do you usually shoot them? Do you plan the scene or just follow your instinct? Any tips for others who want to capture tiny objects like jewelry?

A: There are a lot of things in the house for props, I just grab whatever is appropriate for the Coppertist.wu's item that came to my idea. I had once a small photography studio setup and lighting for portraits and product photography. My usual clients were my friends and colleagues helping them with their small businesses. Eventually, I stopped doing it when I got busy in other things. It was just one of my hobbies back then and I'm still in it once in a while. Having developed some photography skill, it kind of makes easy for me to shoot any subject in any available source of light. For small items, there are times I use plain paper background with selected color for good isolation and cleaner background. A photo light box can also do the job but I never use it. I had sold my macro lens and the lens I'm using now specifically for Coppertist.wu's products is the 24-70mm GM II from Sony. It is an incredible lens, I always set it to 70mm and I can shoot small items as close as 6 to 10 centimeters. I'm still looking for a macro lens that I really like. A smart phone can also do the job as long as one knows how to setup the settings for optimization to have good results but I still prefer the full frame camera. After all, why not give justice to a beautiful piece by capturing it with a reputable camera.

Q: Alright, creative mode on — if you could design your dream pendant or ring with us, what would it look like? Any creatures, symbols, or hidden features you'd include?

A: Anything in the wildlife category but Coppertist.wu had already covered some of the creatures. I love wildlife. In fact, I have already collected almost a hundred t-shirts with different big face animal printed on each of them. Wild cats such as lion, tiger, puma, etc. especially as a pendant with articulation of a moveable jaw. They seem to roar while the mouth opens from the jaw. Ram, bull, bison, all the horned animals would also be a great subject for jewelry. Since Coppertist.wu's theme is “Sparked by wildlife”, musical note symbols would also be a good subject as well as musical instruments. As a designer myself, there are vast ideas for creativity that comes to mind. It saddens me when in the Western world such as North America, I notice that the design of Asian mythical creatures is not much of a trend except of course for some Asian-Americans.

Q: We always want to get better — what do you think we could improve? Website features, design style, after-sales experience — feel free to share any thoughts.

A: The website is fantastic, easy to navigate and search. All the items are presented perfectly with incredible photography showing the details and craftsmanship, and sometimes with some animation showing movements of articulation. The only thing is that when on a smart phone, the reviews could not be viewed except on a computer desktop. Other than that, everything is great. From searching for an item, selecting the material, choosing the correct size if required, until the final steps such as checkout process. The different payment methods is also a convenient.

Q: Have any of your friends or family found out about us through you? And if so — what do they think about the pieces?

A: The items I wear catch the eyes of friends and some people I meet even when I travel around North America. They are curious and interested as the items caught their attention. I always refer them by quickly opening the Coppertist.wu website on my phone and show them the products. I always noticed that they are amazed when they saw such products. There are comments from them such as “incredible”, “amazing”, “phenomenal”, “cool”, “beautiful”, “that's sick” (in a good way), etc.

Q: Last one — complete the sentence for us:

A: “When I wear a piece from Coppertist.Wu, I feel complete and cool (in terms of fashion).”
