In the procession culture of Fujian and Taiwan, the White Crane Herald walks ahead of the divine palanquin, clearing the path, watching, guiding. He wears a three-tiered crown and carries crane wings that half-conceal his face. We translated this guardian into a 35mm bead, not by copying costume but by capturing presence. The face is partially hidden by feathers, eyes lifted in a forward gaze that feels alert rather than confrontational. Turn it over: the wings become the subject, brass and white metal forming a yin-yang relationship in metal. Fourteen separate components; crown layers, painted mask grooves, set gems, feather stacks, fit inside a form meant to rest between your fingers or against other beads. It functions as a spacer or three-way connector; a loop beneath accepts tassels or secondary pendants without restringing.

Why you'll love it
It rewards rotation. The front reads as a figure; the back as abstract wings in two metals. The half-hidden face creates a focal point in the eyes, which were rebuilt across three iterations to achieve the right forward intensity. The crown was stripped of excessive ornament until only the central gem remained, enough to signal rank without clutter. It is a character piece that carries procession culture into daily ritual: your own string of beads, your own order.
Hand-finished
Fourteen independent parts are machined and assembled by hand. Mask grooves are carved first, then painted in layers to replicate the dimensional quality of opera face paint. Crown gems are individually set. Wings are arranged in overlapping tiers, primary feathers outside, covert feathers beneath, to replicate true avian structure. Every fit is tested for alignment; a fraction of a millimeter shifts the expression.
Keep it perfect
Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Avoid water and chemicals. Hand-painted areas are sealed but should not be abraded. Store separately or cushioned to protect mask detail and wing edges.

The White Crane Herald Bead draws on the White Crane Herald seen in Fujian and Taiwan folk processions. How to add it to your own design

2. Use the lower loop for a compatible tassel or small charm, supporting the loop close to its connection point.
3. Do not force an oversized ring or pull the bead by the wing, zircon or cinnabar details.
