ABOUT

The Snail Three-Way Bead is not about speed. It is about staying the course. In Tibetan mala tradition, the three-way bead—also called the mother bead or guru bead—marks the starting and ending point of a prayer cycle. Our snail form wraps that idea into something quieter: a reminder that growth is slow, steady, and always inward.

Two characters live in this piece. Finding the Way carries a balanced, outward-facing shell: the path already recognized, the lesson already learned. Seeking the Way turns the spiral inward: the question still open, the journey still unfolding. Together they make a bead that works whether you are beginning a practice or returning to one.

The three holes are drilled and polished by hand so your mala cord runs cleanly through the body without snagging. The surface is left with the slight irregularities of hand-finishing—tiny tool marks and patina shifts that make each bead unmistakably individual.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

It moves with your practice. Wear it as the center bead on a 108-bead mala, thread it into a wrist bracelet, or carry it as a standalone touch piece. The white bronze alloy keeps the weight satisfying without feeling heavy, and the warm patina settles in over weeks of handling. Because each bead is finished individually, the spiral depth and surface tone vary slightly—so no two pieces read exactly the same under light.

HAND-FINISHED

The spiral is carved in multiple passes to keep the ridge edges crisp and the valleys clean. Each bore is drilled from three angles and then polished with abrasive cord to remove burrs. The white bronze is oxidized, then selectively re-polished on high points so the snail's shell catches light while the recesses stay dark. Final assembly—when an option includes cord, spacers, or secondary beads—is done by hand and checked against the original sample before shipping.

Keep it perfect

Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Avoid water, perfume, and abrasive surfaces. The white bronze patina will continue to darken and soften with skin contact; store in a dry pouch when not worn to slow oxidation.

FAQ

What is a three-way bead?

A three-way bead, also known as a guru or mother bead, is the focal bead on a Tibetan mala. It has three holes so the cord can enter, turn, and exit, marking the start and end of each 108-bead recitation.

Can I use this bead on my own mala?

Yes. The Bead Only option is drilled and polished ready for your cord. The bore fits most standard mala cords up to 2 mm.

Will the white bronze patina change?

Yes. White bronze develops a warmer, darker tone with handling and exposure to skin oils. This is normal and gives the bead its character.
