The heart carries life. The capsule carries memory. This piece extends the Mechanical Heart series not by repeating its form, but by giving it a function: it opens. Inside, a chamber accepts a folded note, a small stone, a lock of hair, a secret that does not need display but deserves keeping. The exterior remains the series' visual language, intersecting pipes, layered cooling fins, gears, and mechanical chambers arranged into the silhouette of an organ that never existed in nature. But the seam is invisible. No external knob, no threaded collar. The two halves separate with a gentle pull, held at rest by magnets calibrated to balance security against ease. The magnets themselves were the hardest variable: larger ones hold better but thicken the wall, compromising the compact mechanical proportions; smaller ones preserve the silhouette but risk accidental opening. The final tolerance was found through iterative testing of size, placement, contact area, and release resistance. What looks like a simple motion was the most reworked detail in the design.

The mechanical detailing rewards close looking, each pipe and fin reads as functional, even where it is not, while the hidden seam preserves the illusion of a solid machine. HAND-FINISHED

Each shell is machined in multiple parts and assembled to conceal the magnetic interface within the mechanical structure. Internal chamber dimensions were optimized for common keepsake sizes without compromising exterior proportions. Surface textures, brushed fins, polished pipes, oxidized recesses, are applied to maintain the visual logic of a working mechanical system.

Keep it perfect

Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Avoid water and chemicals. The magnetic closure should be kept free of metal debris. Do not force the opening; the magnets are calibrated for a specific release threshold. Store closed when not in use to preserve alignment.
